A Brief Bergisel Ski jump History
The Bergisel hill near Innsbruck has always been full of history: From the early skijump competitions in the 20`s,to two Olympic Winter Games, the papal visit in 1988 and the International Four Hills Tournamemt,the annual German-Austrian ski jump tournament at the beginning of January.
1927
First skijumping competition
23rd of January 1927 on this natural hill: longest jump: 47,5 m
1952
First Four Hills Tour with jumping in Innsbruck on January 3rd 1953. Victory went to Sepp "Buwi" Bradl from Austria
1964 und 1976
Olympic Winter Games 1976:
Gold medal Karl Schnabl AUT
Silver medal Toni Innauer AUT
1988
Pope John Paul II visits Innsbruck and celebrates a mass inside the stadium in front of up to 60.000 people.
2001
New jumping stadium is under construction.Opening Ceremony was held on September 14th 2002.
2002
Anniversary - 50th Four Hills Tour.
Victory goes to Sven Hannavald GER
2008
Air&Style
THE snowboard show & competition air & style comes back home to the Bergisel.
2008
Euro2008: European Football Championship.The Bergisel Stadium turned into the main "Fan Zone" in Innsbruck. Up to 15 000 people watched the Euro 2008 games on a 80m² videowall. Before the live broadcast international bands entertained the crowd.
